On Saturday Bluffton Rotary members constructed some additional wire reef oyster beds at the Waddell Mariculture Center.  There were 15 volunteers, mostly Rotarians but also several spouses and friends and they made 31 of the manufactured wire reefs.  The Department of Natural Resources hosts were hoping the volunteers could build 25 to 30, so their expectations were exceeded.  Kevin Swain, the DNR lead at the event, told the group that each reef will accommodate about 7000 oyster larvae, so the team created reef  beds for well over 200,000 oysters.  It was a fun and educational process for everyone involved.
