Bernie Riedel
It’s Time to End Polio

A brief walk-through time with Rotary and Polio and the current challenges we face to finally finish our mission to eradicate polio from the face of the earth.

Bernie was born and raised in New Ringgold, a small town in eastern Pennsylvania near Allentown and graduated from Penn State University with a BS degree in Computer Science. He and wife Nancy were married in 1983 
and moved to Hilton Head Island in 1989 when they started Riedel Computer Services. A few years later, Bernie's son Michael joined the business.

He joined the Rotary Club of Hilton Head Island, SC in 1992 and served as Club President 1999-2000, District Governor 2006-2007 and District Rotary Foundation Chair 2008-2011. In 2004, he served as District Conference Chair and was honored as District Rotarian of the year. 

He has received the Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service,the Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award, the International Service Award for a Polio Free World and most recently Rotary’s Service Above 
Self Award.

Bernie served as Zone 33 Assistant Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator2017-2020, End Polio Now Coordinator 2022-2024 and currently serves as Zone 33 Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator.

He is a member of the Paul Harris Society, and along with his Rotarian wife Nancy, Major Donors and members of the Bequest Society & PolioPlus Society.

Bernie and Nancy were honored to serve as RI President’s Representatives to District 7930 in Massachusetts. 

Thanks to the family business, Rotary, and taking care of 3 Parrots, 2 Cats &2 Chihuahuas, Bernie & Nancy have no time for hobbies or travel.
