We had about 10 members volunteer on Thursday the 12th to help with the Special Olympics Spring Games held at May River High School. Due to the weather forecast for storms that morning the event was held indoors in the gymnasiums at the school. We originally had several more members signed up but with the event moved indoors we needed fewer people.
Shawn Marlowe coordinated the event. We had a number of student-athletes from the school help us with the softball throw activities. They were a delightful group of students. And, of course, the highlight of the day was the sense of excitement and joy that so many of the special athletes shared during the “competition”. It was a wonderful day indeed!
Our guest speaker for our March 18 meeting is Dr. Mary Olodun, who will help us clarify Who are Our Best Wellness Providers & Why?
She is a distinguished Doctor of Naturopathy and the visionary founder of Trilera Wellness Ministries, DBA: Trilera Holistic Care, where she has dedicated over 30 years to the art and science of natural health consultation. Since establishing Trilera Holistic Care in November 2019, Dr. Mary has embodied her unwavering commitment to holistic healing, driven by a lifelong passion for natural medicine.
Our speaker at the March 11 meeting was Julie Kuhns, Fundraising Director for the Beaufort-Jasper YMCA.
She spoke about the $17M investment in Hardeeville and Southern Beaufort County for a new 35,000 square foot facility with a zero-entry pool.
For children the facility will provide youth sports, afterschool programs, certified preschool, swim lessons, swim teams, day camps and summer camps.
For adults they will provide a fitness center, group exercise classes, water aerobics, senior-specific classes, swim club, adult sports, social opportunities, volunteer opportunities, child watch and Parent's night out.
The building has been designed and built by local firms, though progress was stalled for a month due to a bald eagle's nest, with eggs, on the property.
It will have a coffee shop as it is designed to be a community facility and a place to hang out.
One of the most significant offerings is its child care space and professionals, filling one of the most urgent needs of local residents.
In addition, the organization provides scholarships to all members in need of financial assistance.
Regardless of issue, please let us know if something is going on to prevent you from attending our meetings. We have many members who can help, pray, or just call to lift your spirits.

Do you worry about Alzheimer’s? We do not have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but we must find one. Finding a cure starts with you. Every year the CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund gives research grants focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
Have you given to the CART Fund this year? The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease. The goal of the CART Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well-established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
