We recently had a number of volunteers go the Waddell Mariculture Center to help construct Manufactured Wire Reefs.

Under the direction of two marine biologists from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, our team of 16 Rotarians and friends put together 40 MWRs.

According to Kevin Swain of SCDNR, the 40 MWRs we made will provide habitat for up to 280,000 oysters. Those oysters can filter up to 700,000 gallons of water per hour, or up to 8.4 million gallons of water filtered per day. The MWRs we made will be placed along the May River shoreline at our next oyster restoration project on April 25th.
