Our Member Spotlight of the Month at the September 22 Meeting was Leah Johnston – From Maryland to the Lowcountry!

She is a vibrant new face in the Lowcountry community whose journey from Maryland to South Carolina is as lively as her personality.

Leah grew up in Maryland in a close-knit family where many of her favorite memories were made. One that stands out is her bat mitzvah — instead of a traditional celebration, she followed in the footsteps of her two older brothers and chose a paintball party. Though she worried her friends might not enjoy it, those fears quickly faded. “That Monday at school, we all showed up covered in bruises and laughing,” she recalls. “It was definitely a party no one’s forgotten.”

Leah attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, eager for a change of pace and the chance to explore something new. While she was still in school, her family relocated from Maryland to South Carolina, and after graduation, she decided to follow them to the Lowcountry. It didn’t take long for her to fall in love with the area — the culture, the people, and the relaxed pace of life all made it feel like home.

Known among friends and colleagues as a meticulous planner, Leah brings a strong sense of organization and focus to everything she does — a quality that’s proving helpful as she prepares to take her PE exam in the near future. She is currently a civil design engineer with Ward Edwards.

Outside of work, Leah enjoys running, exploring the local food scene, spending time outdoors, and hanging out with her friends and family as she continues to settle into her new community.
