Bluffton 101: The Role of the Historic Preservationist

Glen Umberger is the Historic Preservationist for the Town of Bluffton, South Carolina.  Recently, he led the efforts to add two new Contributing Resources to the Old Town Bluffton Historic District and in November 2022 presented a paper, “Bluffton 29910: Building a Modern Post Office in the South Carolina Lowcountry” at the 40^th Annual Southeast Chapter of the Society Architectural Historians (SESAH) Conference held in Memphis, TN.  Previously, he was the Manager of Special Projects for the New York Landmarks Conservancy, based in Manhattan.  Originally from Philadelphia, he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Architectural History from the Savannah College of Art and Design and a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Delaware.
