Maureen Richards of the "Bluffton Historic Preservation Society" talked to the Bluffton Rotary Club on January 23 about the Preservation Society which started in 1981 to promote Bluffton. The Heyward House was named the official WelcomeCenter for Bluffton in 2000.  The WelcomeCenter received 4,800 visitors in 2004 and 9,500 last year, in 2007, a 98% increase in visitors.

Today the Preservation Society is actively involved in connecting old town Bluffton to new town Bluffton, as the town lines have expanded so much over the last few years. Their mission is to protect, preserve and promote the cultural heritage and history of Bluffton. The Preservation Society also plans to start an outreach program into the schools this year. Ms. Richards left us all materials on Old Town Bluffton history and a walking tour map, The Heyward House and The Bluffton Historical Preservation Society. The walking tours would be a fun way to spend a spring afternoon or to show visitors to our old town Bluffton.  More information can be found at www.heywardhouse.org or by calling (843) 757-6293.
