UPCOMING MEETING: April 10
Join us this Wednesday at the Rotary Community Center at 7:30 AM for our weekly meeting.  This week's speaker will be Shirley Cave of Petals and Stars.

She is a former newspaper owner and publisher and established a nonprofit organization in 2019 with the aim of spreading hope at community nursing homes.

In 2023, the organization's name was officially changed to Petals & Stars, and it now includes various programs that target community agencies and families.  She will be sponsoring a Entrepreneur Day 4 Kids on May 4 at Oscar Frazier Park.  Children of all ages will be onsite selling impressive crafts, jewelry, artwork, baked goods, home décor and other products
Meeting Recap: April 3
Cardiologist Dr. Bill Epps gave an enlightening lecture on women's heart health during our meeting on April 3. He reminded us that female physiology is much different, particularly when it comes to the cardiovascular system, and that when women have heart attacks their mortality rate is 30% higher than men's. They also have more serious cardiovascular disease and over the age of 65 the cause of death is primarily heart disease. To date there is also less research on women's heart disease, and their symptoms of heart issues are usually different than those for men.

CART FUND DONATIONS
Do you worry about Alzheimer’s?  We do not have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but we must find one.  Finding a cure starts with you.  Every year the CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund gives research grants focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

Have you given to the CART Fund this year?  The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.  The goal of the CART Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well-established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
