Remembering Alan Johnson
Enthusiastic Bluffton Rotarian Alan Johnson passed away recently.  The club has made a  $215 donation to Bluffton Self Help in his memory/honor.

Alan Edward Johnson, age 58, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Alan was born in Muskegon, MI on August 5, 1965, to Raymond and Bonnie (Rose) Johnson and currently resided in Scottsdale, AZ. He graduated from Mona Shores High School, went on to graduate from Central Michigan University and then worked for 35 years as a Certified Financial Planner.

Alan loved playing hockey and watching sports, especially the Detroit teams and rooting for his kids' Michigan Wolverines and TCU Horned Frogs - experiencing the meeting of the teams in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl together. He enjoyed hiking and all of his time on the water, especially scuba diving, boat rides and walks on the marsh. He was a natural conversationalist, always able to squeeze in a movie quote or song lyric. He had an impressive collection of vintage beer cans gathered with his dad from every corner of the country. He was very involved with the community through the Rotary Club in Bluffton, SC, and he loved spending time with his family.

Alan will be lovingly remembered by his two children: Hailey and Raymond; his three sisters: Jane Kapral, Elaine (Jeffrey) Byland, and Carol (Larry) Grevious; nieces and nephews: Andrew (Jennifer) Kapral, Shawn Byland, Kristine Roughton, David (Amber) Grevious, Brett (Ashley) Grevious, and Tyler (Leah) Grevious; the mother of his children, Lorie Johnson; girlfriend, Robin Sendra; and many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Raymond and Bonnie Johnson; brother, David Johnson; and brother in-law, Thomas Kapral.

Please remember him in our prayers.

Fill The Van with Bluffton Self Help
We have multiple holiday projects coming up with Bluffton Self Help!  Two in particular that we will need to be of assistance are "Fill the Van" efforts prior to Thanksgiving and Christmas.  On November 13 we will have the SH Van at the Rotary Center  to collect food donations for their Holiday Dinner.  Then on December 11 we will have the van at our meeting to collect toy donations for their Christmas store. Please remember to bring food on the 13, and toys on the 13!

CART FUND DONATIONS
Do you worry about Alzheimer’s?  We do not have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but we must find one.  Finding a cure starts with you.  Every year the CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund gives research grants focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

Have you given to the CART Fund this year?  The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.  The goal of the CART Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well-established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
