Mirasol Health's Director of Development, Ryan Pye, spoke to the club at our November 12 meeting.
Founded in 1982 as Hospice Volunteers of the Lowcountry, MiraSol Health began as a 501(c)(3) dedicated to providing compassionate, quality care to neighbors facing the end of life.
The organization today serves over 3200 individuals annually by offering a comprehensive approach to health and wellness to families and patients dealing with significant adversity by providing hospice and palliative services. In addition, they provide Outpatient individual therapy as well as significant supportive volunteer services.
Unusual in the hospice cafe space, they provide direct visits to patients of doctors and Nurse Practitioners. 85% of their funding goes back into the community.
At our Satellite Club Meeting on November 12, Assistant Governor Dan Cuifredda inducted new member, Thomas Kay, who was sponsored by Bluffton Rotary Club Member Dean Turner. We’re so excited to have Tom join our mission of “Service Above Self” and look forward to the positive impact they’ll bring to our community.
Operation Footprint is one of the many incredible projects supported by The Rotary Foundation — providing life-changing surgeries to children born with clubfoot in Honduras and beyond.
We were honored to have Dr. Jeffrey Yung of the Hilton Head Rotary Club and Island Ankle and Foot Surgery talk about his work with Operation Footprint in countries such as Honduras, India, El Salvador. Dr. Yung helps Operation Footprint to provide free surgical care to indigent children with foot and ankle conditions, such as clubfoot, severe flatfoot and also trains local surgeons to be able to manage and treat these conditions.
PDG and District 7770 Foundation Chair Paul Walter gave an informative presentation on the Rotary Foundation, as November is Foundation Month. We also celebrated a special milestone — Steve Miller, one of our dedicated members, was recognized as a Major Donor to The Rotary Foundation! His generosity helps fund life-changing projects around the world, from providing clean water and supporting education to promoting peace and improving health.
Please join us in congratulating and welcoming these outstanding Rotarians who embody what Rotary is all about — service, fellowship, and making a difference.
On Thursday<November 13 we purchased and delivered food to the Bluffton Community Kitchen for their special Thanksgiving dinner next week. We donated 25 turkeys, 20 hams, and 35 bags of fresh produce, including yams, potatoes, carrots, peppers, etc.
Bluffton Community Kitchen provides assistance to underserved families in Bluffton. Their services include providing hot meals twice each week, an outdoor food pantry three days per week, and various other services. Bluffton Rotary has been donating food for their Thanksgiving meal for the last nine years, and our club also awarded a grant to the Community Kitchen this year.
Regardless of issue, please let us know if something is going on to prevent you from attending our meetings. We have many members who can help, pray, or just call to lift your spirits.
Club Dues Invoices - please submit payment at your earliest convenience. Several Rotarians have outstanding balances from prior invoices - if you are unsure of who you are, please reach out to Don Kensey, Rotary Club of Bluffton Treasurer.
Do you worry about Alzheimer’s? We do not have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but we must find one. Finding a cure starts with you. Every year the CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund gives research grants focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
Have you given to the CART Fund this year? The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease. The goal of the CART Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well-established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
