UPDATE ON SOAR & THE BLUFFTON ROTARY CLUB
SOAR Special Recreation and Public Tennis have been hard at work helping special needs athletes in Beaufort County continue to practice their tennis game while they can't be on the courts. Bluffton Rotary in conjunction with local tennis players and Tennis Warehouse were able to give the racquets and practice balls for the athletes to take home during Covid-19 and social distancing requirements. The racquets and balls (Rotary donated the tennis balls) were distributed throughout schools in the county and handed out by teachers.
HERE'S A VIDEO ABOUT THE PROGRAM AND BLUFFTON ROTARY IS MENTIONED!
RECAP: THANKSGIVING FUNDRAISER

Please don't forget to pick up your purchase from the Bluffton Rotary Center on Tuesday, Nov. 24, between 4pm and 6pm. Thank you!
RECAP OF LAST MTNG: 11/18/20
Thanks to O'Neills Outdoor Power Equipment for donating the coffee and snacks at our last meeting on Nov. 18!!
***Rotarian, Mike Tripka, and mead wizard will have Yuletide Christmas Sangria available before the Christmas tree lighting on Dec. 4. Drop by Bee Town Mead & Cider and enjoy some holiday cheer!
At our last meeting, we welcomed two new members to the club--Karen Beltz and Bill Beltz--who transfered to our club from the Okatie Club. The Board has approved two new members, Scott Colyer and Dean Turner. Dean is transferring from the Abbeyville, SC, Rotary Club.
Sandee James Brooks spoke about the Rotary Foundation. She's been a Rotarian since 2000 and is the District’s Global Ambassadorial Scholar Chair. She has held numerous positions at the Club level and District Level including District Governor 2016-17, District Rotary Foundation Chair 2017-20, Zone Summit Sponsorship Committee Chair 2018-19,  and Zone Summit Logistics Chair 2019-20. Sandee is a Major Donor, Bequest Society and Benefactor, and Paul Harris Society Member.
The highlights of the Rotary Foundation presentation included an overview of why the foundation was created and how the foundation's money is distributed. The foundation began in 1917 and was started with a simple mission--to do good in the world. The foundation funds are distributed to the World Fund to combat polio and to local charities and organizations through scholarships and grants at the district level. As of September 2020 there were a reported 47 polio cases in Afganistan, 74 in Pakistan, and Nigeria has had no new cases in the last 3 years. In order for a country to be polio free there must be no new cases in a 3-year period. We are so close to erradicating polio in the world, and we continue to work toward that goal.
