Rotarians Building Manufactured Wire Reefs
We recently had a number of volunteers go the Waddell Mariculture Center to help construct Manufactured Wire Reefs.

Under the direction of two marine biologists from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, our team of 16 Rotarians and friends put together 40 MWRs.

According to Kevin Swain of SCDNR, the 40 MWRs we made will provide habitat for up to 280,000 oysters. Those oysters can filter up to 700,000 gallons of water per hour, or up to 8.4 million gallons of water filtered per day. The MWRs we made will be placed along the May River shoreline at our next oyster restoration project on April 25th.

Meeting Recap: March 18
At our March 18 meeting Dr. Mary Olodun gave us some insights on how to explore the full landscape of health and wellness providers which extends significantly beyond conventional medical care.

Her incredible background as a nurse, military officer, logistician, public affairs expert, child counselor, HR expert, doctor of naturopathy and strategic communications leader gives her unique insights and expertise in managing health.

Alternative health and wellness - often referred to as complementary and integrative health - includes therapeutic modalities used alongside or in place of conventional medicine. These evidence-informed practices - including naturopathy, clinical homeopathy, and nutritional science - focus on whole-person wellness, root-cause resolution, and patient empowerment through natural, non-pharmaceutical interventions.

This is becoming increasingly important as we learn more about the shortcomings and side effects of conventional treatment options, and we find health care demand rising as resources decline. We also find that Gen Z and Millenials are driving a massive proactive shift toward wellness and preventive care.

CART FUND DONATIONS
Do you worry about Alzheimer’s?  We do not have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but we must find one.  Finding a cure starts with you.  Every year the CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund gives research grants focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

Have you given to the CART Fund this year?  The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.  The goal of the CART Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well-established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
