Anna Ponder, Vice Chancellor for Advancement at the University of South Carolina Beaufort, spoke with us about USCB's history and where the college is headed. USCB started in Beaufort in 1795, the Bluffton location opened in 2004, and the Hilton Head Island location in 2018. The Beaufort campus has 100 students in the honors and visual arts programs. The main campus is in Bluffton and has approximately 1000 students with 20 majors offered. The Hospitality Management Program is run from the HHI location. This campus is not a culinary arts center, but rather a teaching kitchen where students learn to manage kitchens in resorts and hotels. Quick Stats: 85% students come from SC. Many of the students are working adults, veterans, and moms going back to school later in life. 39% people of color 69% women 54% first generation university students 46% eligible for Federal Pell Grant's USCB has the lowest tuition in SC at$5172 per semester with a student to faculty ratio of 16:1. They are hoping to build a basketball stadium and have a team to increase the school population and to get the community more involved with the college by supporting the team. How can we get involved with USCB right now? We can mention the college when we meet people who are thinking about higher education and encourage them to check out USCB! |
