Our speaker for our February 5 Meeting was Russell Baxley, CEO of Beaufort Memorial Hospital.
He gave a wide-ranging talk about the expansion plans of the healthcare system, including the proposed Bluffton Community Medical Campus.
The hospital handled over 9,000 admissions last year and over 250,000 outpatient registrations. In addition they have expanded on-site training to include certification for future healthcare professionals and technicians.
An exciting part of his talk was the changing definition of healthcare services to include affordable housing and childcare.
Our speaker for our meeting on February 12 is Shannon GaNun.
She has been a communication professional for more than 30 years and has had the privilege of helping companies, associations, nonprofits, and Members of Congress develop clear, compelling messages to achieve their desired results.
She is now a highly sought-after keynote speaker and consultant who offers a unique blend of tactical knowledge and compassion to help business professionals become better leaders.
Shannon is also an instructor at Georgia Southern University, teaching public speaking classes to undergraduates and communication and leadership classes to professionals.
Her education includes a Master of Arts in Professional Communication and Leadership from Armstrong State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
When she’s not keeping her mind in peak condition via her communication and leadership training, Shannon keeps her body in peak condition through teaching yoga, Pilates, and group fitness classes.
Shannon and her husband Ed (a pilot and a retired Naval Officer and Aviator) have three grown children: Natalie, Jacqueline, and James. She is also active in her parish, St. Anne Catholic Church.

Do you worry about Alzheimer’s? We do not have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but we must find one. Finding a cure starts with you. Every year the CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund gives research grants focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
Have you given to the CART Fund this year? The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease. The goal of the CART Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well-established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
