Upcoming Meeting: May 21
Our speaker for our May 21 meeting will be columnist Annelore Harrell.  Born in 1932 in Savannah, she traveled the world as an Army wife before returning to her roots on Myrtle Island in Bluffton, where her family had a summer home. With her unique voice and vibrant storytelling, Et Cetera Y'all, Volume 1 features her earliest newspaper columns from the Carolina Morning News. Annelore took a brief hiatus in 2024 to publish Et Cetera Y’all but has happily returned to writing as a columnist for the Bluffton and Hilton Head Sun newspapers.

Meeting Recap: May 14
John Miller explaining Bluffton Rotary's annual donation of athletic equipment to the Police Department, and Chief Babkiewicz accepting, explaining that the equipment is placed in the department's patrol cars to be passed out by the officers when they see children playing in the neigborhood.

Bluffton Historical Preservationist Glen Umberger enthusiastically described the origins of the Squire Pope Carriage House which was originally built in 1850 and was burned by Union troops during the Civil War.  Rebuilt from other destroyed residences it changed hands multiple times with various improvements along the way.  Ultimately purchased by the city and after an extensive repair and refurbishment process the former residence is now the city's welcome center.

CART FUND DONATIONS
Do you worry about Alzheimer’s?  We do not have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but we must find one.  Finding a cure starts with you.  Every year the CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund gives research grants focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

Have you given to the CART Fund this year?  The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.  The goal of the CART Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well-established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
