John Miller explaining Bluffton Rotary's annual donation of athletic equipment to the Police Department, and Chief Babkiewicz accepting, explaining that the equipment is placed in the department's patrol cars to be passed out by the officers when they see children playing in the neigborhood. Bluffton Historical Preservationist Glen Umberger enthusiastically described the origins of the Squire Pope Carriage House which was originally built in 1850 and was burned by Union troops during the Civil War. Rebuilt from other destroyed residences it changed hands multiple times with various improvements along the way. Ultimately purchased by the city and after an extensive repair and refurbishment process the former residence is now the city's welcome center. |
