Meeting Recap: September 11
Our speaker this week was Robert Jones, Executive Director of the Historic Bluffton Foundation.

Originally founded as the Bluffton Historical Society the Foundation has been working to preserve Bluffton's heritage since 1981. Unfortunately many records of the town's earliest days were lost in the Civil War, but the foundation is working diligently to do everything it can to make sure future generations will have access to our history and our unique culture.

Much of the work recently has been on repairing and restoring the Heyward House and its outbuildings. The Foundation also owns the Colcock-Teel House, and the Caldwell Archives, which is maintained and operated inside Bluffton Town Hall. It is also evaluating what is needed at the Cyrus Garvin House.

He also wanted to let us know that his organization is sponsoring a Gullah Spirituals Concert on October 25 at the Campbell Chapel AME Church. The event will celebrate the life and music of Luke Peeples who wrote down much of the Gullah music that had been passed down for generations.

The Bluffton Rotary is a donor to the Historic Bluffton Foundation.

CART FUND DONATIONS
Do you worry about Alzheimer’s?  We do not have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but we must find one.  Finding a cure starts with you.  Every year the CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund gives research grants focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

Have you given to the CART Fund this year?  The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease.  The goal of the CART Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well-established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
