Our speaker for our September 3 meeting is Don Brashears who will now play a role in THE ROTARY FOUNDATION BASIC EDUCATION & LITERACY MAJOR GIFTS INITIATIVE ADVISERS 2024-2025.
This group of 7 world wide advisers will provide leadership and coordination of efforts to raise US $50 million over three to five years in cash and commitments for the Basic Education and Literacy area of focus. We are so proud to call him one of our own!!
In a recent member spotlight interview, Charlie Wetmore III reflected on his journey from the snowy streets of Rochester, NY to the sun-soaked charm of Bluffton, where he settled in 1995 to escape the cold and embrace a more relaxed coastal lifestyle.
Today, Charlie serves as the Planning Commission Chair in Bluffton, while also managing sales at R.S. Andrews, a company specializing in air conditioning, heating, and plumbing. Beyond his professional roles, he’s an ordained Baptist minister and the current Bluffton Rotary President, bringing a unique blend of leadership, faith, and community service to everything he does.
Known for his spontaneous spirit, Charlie finds his greatest joy boating along the scenic May River. His latest personal goal? Completing a two-year home addition just in time for the Arts and Seafood Festival—a fitting milestone for someone so deeply rooted in the rhythm of Lowcountry life.
Regardless of issue, please let us know if something is going on to prevent you from attending our meetings. We have many members who can help, pray, or just call to lift your spirits.

Do you worry about Alzheimer’s? We do not have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but we must find one. Finding a cure starts with you. Every year the CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund gives research grants focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
Have you given to the CART Fund this year? The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease. The goal of the CART Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well-established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
