Our speaker for our September 17 meeting is our new District Governor, Sandy Morckel. All members are encouraged to attend this special meeting to hear her message for this year.
At the September 10 meeting Rotary member Steve Tilton talked about his recent South African adventures. Steve shared stories and photos about going on private game reserves, seeing a rare White Rhino, experiencing Victoria Falls, plus some time for golf and visiting wineries. Steve also discussed the issue of poaching, where poachers are going after the rare rhino tusks. While Steve and his wife Julie – also in the Bluffton Evening Satellite Club - were visiting South Africa, they learned about a poacher shot that killed one of the remaining 12 rhinos. A very memorable trip.
At our September 10 meeting Char of the Ats and Seafood Festival Mary O'Neill talked about the Historic Arts & Seafood Festival - its origin and history, the events and importance of volunteering to help.
In addition, President and CEO of Histon Head Symphony Orchestra, Alan Jordan joined Mary to talk about the Symphony Orchestra's Outdoor Pops in the Park, Thursday, October 16, 7:30 PM, a very special event with the Festival.
Our speaker at our September 3 meeting was Don Brashears, who will now play a role in THE ROTARY FOUNDATION BASIC EDUCATION & LITERACY MAJOR GIFTS INITIATIVE ADVISERS.
He spoke about the ubiquity and depth of the Rotary Foundation and its long term effectiveness, asking us to continue our strong commitment to supporting it.
Regardless of issue, please let us know if something is going on to prevent you from attending our meetings. We have many members who can help, pray, or just call to lift your spirits.

Do you worry about Alzheimer’s? We do not have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but we must find one. Finding a cure starts with you. Every year the CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund gives research grants focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
Have you given to the CART Fund this year? The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease. The goal of the CART Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well-established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
