Our speaker for our September 17 meeting was District Governor Sandy Morckel.
Her call to action to the Bluffton Rotary Club is to be intentional with service, create measurable impact. She would like to see Rotary Clubs collaborate more with other clubs, the Town, the Chamber, other organizations. Sandy wants to focus on youth this rotary year with more interaction and Rotary Club involvement, noting that those we work with are likely to become Rotarians in our clubs in the future. She wants us to focus on the Youth Exchange program. She emphasized the overall Rotary desire to Unite for Good, our Rotary theme for 2025-2026.
As an accomplished nonprofit consultant, Sandy has assisted charitable organizations and public/private partnerships raise millions in philanthropic support across the nation for a wide variety of causes since 1987. After serving as Director of Philanthropy of Historic Charleston Foundation, Sandy launched Solutions for the Greater Good in 2014 as a nonprofit consulting firm to impact small- to medium-sized organizations and public/private partnerships in manifesting their goals and missions. Sandy believes in the power of philanthropy to address community issues and has a passion for the creation of enlightened sustainable communities with quality of life for all.
As a Rotarian since 1993, Sandy has served in many roles leading up to DG for this Rotary year. Originally a Midwesterner with family roots in Ohio, Sandy moved to Charleston in 2012 from Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Sandy is married to Craig Gangloff and lives in Mount Pleasant and is a member of the Charleston Rotary Club.
At our September 17 meeting the Bernie's visited us to remind us of our work in eradicating polio.
The “Flat Bernie” was developed to help promote and raise awareness for the Rotary Foundation and our quest to eliminate Polio+. He is traveling throughout our district visiting clubs and participating in special events, including our upcoming Historic Bluffton Arts & Seafood Festival.
Bernie serves on the Zone 33 Rotary Foundation Team 2025-26.
Regardless of issue, please let us know if something is going on to prevent you from attending our meetings. We have many members who can help, pray, or just call to lift your spirits.

Do you worry about Alzheimer’s? We do not have a cure for Alzheimer’s disease, but we must find one. Finding a cure starts with you. Every year the CART (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund gives research grants focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
Have you given to the CART Fund this year? The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease. The goal of the CART Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental Alzheimer’s disease research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well-established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications.
