Jeanne Owens, Hope Haven
This week, the club welcomed speaker, Jeanne Owens, Director of Prevention and Outreach at Hope Haven of the Lowcountry.

Hope Haven is a non-profit organization that focuses on the needs of child victims of abuse and adult victims of rape, sexual assault and incest. The organization serves Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, Jasper and Allendale counties and assisted with over 500 cases in 2009.

The mission of the organization is to provide comprehensive services that lead to healing for child victims of abuse and adult victims of rape, sexual assault and incest. They also strive to increase the community's awareness of these issues through education and outreach.

Accredited by the National Childrens Alliance, Hope Haven provides state-of-the-art child forensic interviews, crisis counseling, victim advocacy, evidence-based mental health treatment, family support, law enforcement partnerships and educational programs.

Startling national statistic show that 1 our of every 4 girls and 1 out of every 6 boys will be sexually abused by their 18 birthday. Victims represent every race, color, creed and socioeconomic background.

In addition to making tax deductible donations to Hope Haven, members of the community can volunteer in the following areas:
• Staff the crisis hotline
• Accompany victims to the hospital
• Accompany victims to court
• Help with office work
• Assist in our prevention/outreach services
• Assist in fundraising activities
