The Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization that was formed for the sole purpose of facilitating the travel of American veterans - free of charge - to Washington D.C. to visit the Memorials that were built in their honor.

Veterans interested in the program have to complete an application which can be obtained online at www.honorflight.org. Trips are awarded on a first come, first serve basis however, priority is given to WWII veterans and those who have terminal health issues.

Local active members of the military often serve via welcoming their older brothers in arms during their send off and return. Trips for veterans in the Savannah area include a 5:30 a.m. flight into Baltimore, a full day in D.C., then an 11:30 p.m. return to Savannah. Those veterans who do not care to fly can choose to make the trip via train.

Anyone interested in making donations, volunteering or becoming a guardian (accompanying the veterans) can get more information by contacting the local Savannah chapter at honorflightsavannahinc@gmail.com
